Field Mode

No Bars? It Still Works.

The places worth investigating are the places with no service. Primal Signal was built for that. GPS comes off satellites, not cell towers — so your position, your camera, your recorder and your probability dial keep running with zero reception.

One thing to do before you walk in

Open the app at the trailhead — while you still have a bar or two — and tap Prep This Area For Offline. It downloads the satellite imagery, topographic relief, terrain, water and road data plus live conditions for a grid of zones around you and stores it on the phone. From that point on you can lose service completely and the engine still gives you real numbers.

Takes under a minute on a decent connection. You'll only need to redo it when you move to a new area.

Works with zero bars

  • GPS coordinates
Read straight off the satellites. No tower, no bars, no data required.
  • Photo & video capture
Saved on the phone with GPS coordinates and a timestamp attached.
  • Audio recording
Full-length clip stored locally, ready to classify later.
  • Written statements
Typed in the field and held on the device.
  • Probability Engine
Scores from GPS, terrain, season, moon phase and time of day using the conditions you pre-loaded.
  • Evidence archive
Everything you've already captured stays browsable.

Waits for signal — automatically

  • AI subject identification
Photo and video vision analysis runs server-side.
  • Audio species classification
The bioacoustics match needs the analysis engine.
  • Content safety filter
Every submission is screened before it can be uploaded.
  • Live map + submission
Uploading your report to the network.

Nothing is lost. Nothing is wasted.

Anything you capture out of range is queued on your phone and marked ⏳ Queued. The instant you catch a bar of service — even back at the truck — the safety filter and the AI analysis run themselves and your evidence finishes processing. A dead connection never burns one of your capture slots.

Trailhead checklist

  1. 1.Open the app at the trailhead while you still have service.
  2. 2.Tap GPS so it locks your position.
  3. 3.Tap “Prep This Area For Offline” in Field Mode and let it finish.
  4. 4.Run one probability scan so the engine is warm.
  5. 5.Head in. Capture everything — it all saves.
  6. 6.Back in range, open the app and let the queue drain.

Field Mode is always on — the app detects the dead zone itself and tells you what it's doing. You'll find the full briefing and the prep button under 📵 Field Mode on the app's home screen.
